Significant cost savings compared to thermal granulation and fluid-bed agglomeration have been achieved in a variety of industrial applications across Europe by users of the Eirich Mixing Granulator, available in the UK from Orthos.
The Eirich unit is also reported to give less wear compared to press agglomeration systems.
By mixing and granulating together, in one machine, with faster processing times and reduced space requirements, the production of high-quality correctly sized granules from the very first batch is assured, so that operation is continuous.
Developed from the Eirich inclined disk pelletiser, its operating principle is said to be unique, with the rotating pan for material transport and rolling of granules separate from the mixing tool, which can therefore by varied in speed between a low of 2m/sec and a high of 40m/sec.
This allows better process matching, and control of the energy input.
The higher tool speeds also allow optimal homogenisation of dry basic materials and the formation of microgranules after addition of liquid, while the lower speeds enable bigger granules of up to 6mm to be formed and rounded.
Further advantages include the ability to Granulator filter cakes and sludges together with dusts and to combine operation with a disk pelletiser to adjust particle size distribution within narrow limits and produce pellets of up to 30mm diameter.
